    THE PROCESS

    The initial consultation

During the initial consultation, your dentist will discuss the issues you have with your teeth and explore what kind of results you’re hoping to achieve. If Invisalign is suitable for you, a treatment plan will be mapped out with your goals in mind. The dentist will then use our state of the art iTero Scanner to take detailed pictures of your teeth, that will be sent to the Invisalign laboratories for processing. This removes the need for messy dental impressions and ensures that you always receive the best possible outcome from your Invisalign treatment.

    Your treatment plan

The impressions of your teeth will be digitised in order for your dentist to work with a computerised 3D image of your teeth. Then, your dentist will plan your tooth movements throughout your entire treatment timeline. You’ll be able to see a virtual representation of your teeth before, during and after completion of the Invisalign process (so you can see what your smile should look like when you’re done with treatment).

    Your bespoke aligners

Once you and your dental practitioner have agreed to the treatment plan, bespoke aligners are then custom-made for you and have to be worn for approximately two weeks before you switch to the next aligner in the series. While the number of aligners varies for each individual, a full treatment typically includes 15-29 aligners for both the upper and lower teeth which will take approximately 8-16 months depending on your individual case.

    The treatment process

Aligners should be worn for a minimum of 22 hours day and night, except when eating, brushing or flossing teeth in order to complete your treatment in the timeline determined by you and your dentist. You’ll go in for checkups every 4-10 weeks to monitor your progress and to receive your next series of aligners. During the entire treatment process you’ll notice gradual movement and your teeth will slowly move into a beautiful even and healthy smile.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a set of clear, removable aligners that are custom-made to move your teeth in a sequence determined by your dentist.

These clear retainer style braces allow you to go about your everyday life without feeling self-conscious and can be taken out quickly and discretely at any time to eat or clean. Made from a clear plastic-like material these effective, yet subtle, aligners are a great way to attain the smile you desire without the need for metal braces, wires or train tracks.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF INVISALIGN VERSUS METAL BRACES?

Both treatments have their pros and cons. Your dentist will be able to go into these in more detail and recommend the treatment best suited to your needs. Invisalign can treat all teeth, although some extreme cases would need to be referred to a specialist.

    Here are some of the benefits from choosing Invisalign over metal braces;
    • Invisalign aligners are convenient and can be removed in seconds.
    • No difficulty eating.
    • Practically invisible unlike conventional braces.
    • No issues with food getting caught in tracks.
    • No discomfort from wires.

    HOW DOES INVISALIGN WORK?

Each aligner tray or ‘retainer’ is tailor made for your teeth and should be swapped for the next one in the sequence approximately once every two weeks – gradually adjusting the teeth over time.

Each retainer in the series of aligners contains slight adjustments to the position of the teeth which causes them to gradually move as the aligners are worn and the straightening process continues.

Unlike some other orthodontic treatments, Invisalign retainers can be removed during the day for eating and cleaning, which makes them convenient and easy to use. To achieve the desired results, however, it is important that they are worn consistently for at least 22 hours each day.

    How long does Invisalign take?

The amount of time it takes for the finished results depends on the individual and their teeth. You will need to attend regular review appointments with your dentist every 8-12 weeks. The aim of these visits will be to ensure that the treatment is progressing as planned, there is no bleeding and no additional adjustments need to be made.

Overall, the full Invisalign process can take anything from 8 months to 2 years. Retention is also important following treatment. Towards the end of this process, your dentist will also supply a complimentary, state-of-the-art teeth whitening system to put the finishing touches to your newly straightened smile.

Your dentist will provide more precise time and cost estimations during your initial free consultation.

    Is Invisalign painful?

Compared to conventional train tracks that cause wires and metal to rub against the gums, Invisalign is a relatively painless process. There is some initial ‘pressure’ felt when the aligners are first worn and as the teeth move but your mouth should quickly adjust and any discomfort is usually minimal.

CAN YOU SHOW ME WHAT MY TEETH WILL LOOK LIKE?

Yes. If you want a sneak peek at just how incredible your smile is going to look after treatment, then we can help. Upon request, we can use our state-of-the-art iTero scanner to track the movements your teeth will follow during the Invisalign process – showing you how you can expect your new smile to look over time.

    HOW MUCH DOES INVISALIGN COST?

The price of Invisalign depends on the individual’s needs – based on their teeth and the length of time they will require Invisalign treatment. At The Essex Smile Centre, we propose a fixed fee inclusive of the aligner trays, contouring, whitening and all consultations. We also offer a range of affordable finance options designed around you and your treatment plan.
