What Does Orthodontic Treatment Entail?

Orthodontic treatment is a method carried out (usually with braces) to straighten or move teeth. This helps to not only improve the appearance of the teeth but the long term health and functionality as well as issues like overcrowding and bite pressure etc.

Could I Benefit From Braces?

Our Clinicians can help to diagnose, prevent and correct dental irregularities in both adolescents and adults. Some of the reasons for requiring a brace include;

  • Crooked or misaligned teeth
  • Over bite or Over jet
  • Jaw joint conditions
  • Missing or overcrowded teeth
  • Poor bite or mal-occlusion

Many people suffer from crowded or crooked teeth which can affect their confidence and the way they feel about their appearance. Orthodontic treatment can help to straighten the teeth and move them into a better position which not only improves how they look but also the way the teeth bite together as well as making them easier to clean.

What Age Should People Have Orthodontic Treatment?

The best time for orthodontic treatment is generally during childhood, however adults can have orthodontic treatment too and they are becoming increasingly popular as more discreet, affordable options become available.

Age is less important than having the right number of teeth which is why in the case of children it may be necessary to wait for enough teeth to come through before commencing treatment. With children we recommend that fixed braces are placed by specialist orthodontist.

How Long Do Braces Take?

The length of time that a patient will need to wear braces can depend on the type of braces and the severity of the dental irregularities. It can take anything from around 6 months up to 3 years but most people complete treatment in around 6-12 months on average.

What Are Invisalign Braces?

At The Essex Smile Centre we are extremely proud to be recognised as a Platinum Elite Invisalign Provider and one of the top providers in Essex – acknowledged for our levels of patient care as well as excellent results.

Invisalign is a set of custom made, clear, removable aligners that move your teeth in a sequence determined by your dentist.

These almost invisible retainer style braces allow patients to go about their everyday lives as normal without feeling self-conscious. They can be taken out quickly and discretely at any time to eat or at morning and night to clean and brush teeth. Made from a clear plastic-like material these effective aligners are a great way to achieve a straight smile without the use of metal braces, wires or train tracks.
