Fear of the dentist is really very common. Perhaps you’ve had a bad experience in the past, or you’re anxious about injections, drill sounds or pain. Unfortunately it’s still fairly common for people to avoid the dentist altogether due to this kind of phobia, and over the years their oral health can suffer irreversible damage.
At The Essex Smile Centre one of our main priorities is helping nervous patients access the dental care they need as comfortably as possible and our experience tells us that after one or two visits it’s unlikely for the anxiety to continue, even with the most nervous patients.
If you’re worried about seeing the dentist, please do let us know. Even if it is over the phone when you make your appointment, you’ll find a supportive, understanding response, with no judgement at all.
When it is time for you too come into the practice, we’ll make sure you have plenty of time to feel comfortable, and your dentist could even chat to you away from the dentist’s chair to begin with, to help you feel at ease.
We will carefully explain everything to you, giving you the time to ask questions and make decisions. When it comes to starting your check up or treatment, we’ll go at your pace, and you can have complete peace of mind that you’re in the very best hands with our experienced team, who use the latest technology and techniques to ensure you’re as comfortable and relaxed as possible.
You could also consider our Emotional Freedom Technique, which many nervous patients have told us helps to reduce their anxiety and fear (you can read more about this below)
If you want to find out more about how we support nervous patients, or are ready to book an appointment, please speak to the team.
Negative experiences disrupt the energy meridians that run through our body. The physical changes we feel from these disruptions, like nausea, fear, anxiety etc. become attached to the memory of that experience. EFT works by realigning the energy meridians and disconnects the physical discomfort that we attach to negative memories and removes the resulting symptoms.
“I was recommended to see Lynne North by Stephen my dentist as I had a phobia of needles. I did not know what to expect but I was put at ease immediately.
Lynne clearly explained everything to me and after just 1 appointment I was cured of my phobia. I can happily walk into my dentist now with no fear of needles. Many thanks to The Essex Smile Centre for recommending Lynne to me and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending her to anyone.” – Chris
