If you have lost a tooth it can affect your self-esteem and you may find yourself hiding your smile or avoiding the camera. Aside from the cosmetic reasons to replace teeth, there are functional reasons to consider as well, such as helping spread the load when chewing food.
The gap left by a missing tooth can place greater stresses and strains on those teeth left behind and even alter the way upper and lower teeth bite together. Despite the rise of advanced dentistry treatments like dental implants, the fact that conventional restorative methods are still commonly used at The Essex Smile Centre points to the crucial role they still have in restoring tooth function and aesthetic beauty.
A dental bridge can be used to replace one or more missing teeth, literally bridging the gap between the adjacent teeth, helping you forget you have missing teeth. Treatment involves a ‘false’ tooth or teeth being created that perfectly match the colour of your natural teeth, and it is then secured into the gap by being anchored to the adjacent teeth on either side, with the help of two dental crowns.
Due to the nature of the treatment, a dental bridge may not be suitable for all patients, for instance if the teeth either side of the gap are not stable or healthy. If this is the case, we will recommend other tooth replacement solutions, such as a dental implant.
