All you need to know about anti-wrinkle injections

Considering anti-wrinkle injections? Here at The Essex Smile Centre we have put together everything you need to know before you undergo treatment.

Anti-wrinkle injections are a prescription medicine that are used to improve the look of moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles and lines on a temporary basis. Anti-wrinkle injections can only be used to treat those wrinkles that appear when you talk, laugh and smile, they are not suitable for wrinkles present when your face is at rest. Anti-wrinkle injections work by blocking the signals from the nerves to the injected muscles, meaning muscles no longer contract strongly. This helps to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

The Procedure

At your initial consultation, our therapist Luke will discuss what you hope to achieve with the treatment. Luke is highly trained and is an assessor for Visage Aesthetics, an expert in his field, so you can be confident of only receiving the highest possible standard of care. The treatment takes 15-20 minutes, using a very fine needle to minimise discomfort. Results should be visible within 5-7 days and you will be able to see the full effect in 14 days. Most improvements will last for around 3 months, at which point you will need to attend for a top-up treatment to maintain the results.

Benefits

  • Anti-wrinkle injections can be completed in your lunch hour and you will then be able to return to work with very few visible side effects. Results are visible immediately, but tend to look better after a few days.
  • Anti-wrinkle injections are administered quickly and precisely using a very fine needle to ensure you feel little more than a pin prick. A topical anaesthetic can also be applied prior to treatment to reduce discomfort further.
  • Anti-wrinkle injections are painless and the results should last 3-4 months, after this time you will need to have a top up treatment to keep your skin looking its best.

Warning

There has recently been a large increase in the number of people falling victim to unqualified practitioners offering cut price injections. Do not let yourself become one of the hundreds of people who end up in A&E each year with damage caused by improperly administered anti-wrinkle injections, by ensuring that you only receive anti-wrinkle treatment from a qualified practitioner.
