6 Steps for a smile makeover
Got a big event coming up? Worried about smiling for cameras? Want to improve the look and appearance of your teeth and gums?
Why not consider a smile makeover? Our experienced dentist will perform a full assessment of your teeth and gums and may take x-rays to help assess the health of the bone in your jaw. They will then be able to draw up a treatment plan which may include a variety of different treatments to help you achieve the smile you desire.
Treatments may include:
Hygienist Treatment
A healthy smile is so important in defining who we are and how we interact with each other. Modern cosmetic dentistry is aimed at enhancing one of nature’s most precious commodities – the smile.
Alongside your regular at home oral hygiene routine. It is a good idea to visit the hygienist for regular scaling and polishing. A dental hygienist specialises in preventative oral care and aims to help you keep your natural teeth as healthy as possible for as long as possible.
The hygienist is able to perform a number of procedures including deep cleanings and stain removal. They can ensure that you have the techniques to keep your teeth in tip top condition.
Crowns, Bridges and Veneers
It is possible for the dentist to use crowns, bridges and veneers to fill gaps and improve the appearance of your teeth. This can be very effective in cases where teeth straightening would be ineffective.
This also enables the dentist to create a white smile that is resistant to future discolouration and staining, ensuring that your smile stay white for years to come.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening can make you look and feel years younger and give you the confidence to smile and smile often. Teeth become discoloured over time through everyday foods and drinks which we consume, smoking and also some medication. When supervised by a dentist, tooth whitening has proven to be a safe and effective method to improve the natural colour of your teeth without causing any damage to your teeth and gums.
Teeth whitening can be performed in surgery, at home or using a combination of the two methods. The effects can last for up to three years depending on your diet and lifestyle before a top up treatment will be required.
It is advisable that any tooth whitening is completed before implant, crown, bridge or veneers are created to ensure that restorations can be made to match exactly your desired tooth colour.
Implants
Dental implants are currently the closest possible replacement for a missing tooth and provide a permanent solution for patients who wish to effectively recapture the aesthetic and functional nature of their smile.
Implants are placed under local anaesthetic directly into the jawbone and after a healing period of three to six months the final restoration will be completed using a crown, bridge or denture which will secure directly into the implant base I your jaw. Once in place your implant should be indistinguishable from your natural teeth and if cared for appropriately should last just as long.
For all our implants we will refer you to Warwick Lodge a specialist practice in Southend.
Teeth Straightening
Over the past few years there has been an increase in the number of people looking to straighten their teeth. The dentist will be able to advise on the best tooth straightening treatment to suit your smile and your lifestyle.
Six Month Smiles – Six Month Smiles has taken the best aspects of braces and modified the treatment and the materials to give adults a common sense, cosmetic solution that fits your lifestyle. While this system is more ‘visible’ than the other clear aligner systems Six Month Smiles treatment can do a lot more in terms of tooth movement and achieve excellent results in a much shorter treatment time. This is normally anywhere from 3-9 months.
Invisalign – Your Invisalign treatment consists of a series of virtually invisible, removable aligners that you change every two weeks for the next set of aligners. Each aligner is individually manufactured for your teeth, and your teeth only. As you replace each aligner, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position prescribed by our Invisalign provider. Invisalign is a lifestyle friendly orthodontic treatment option that can be removed for photographs, eating, maintaining your regular oral hygiene and for special occasions.
Inman Aligner – This custom designed orthodontic appliance uses revolutionary materials to generate comfortable, continuous orthodontic force to efficiently straighten your front teeth. Inman Aligner treatment typically takes between 6 to 16 weeks. Simple cases may be completed in little over one month.
Facial Aesthetics
Not only will the dentist focus on your teeth and gums they may also advise facial aesthetic procedures to improve the overall appearance of your smile. This may include wrinkle reduction and dermal fillers.
Wrinkle reduction – Over time whenever we laugh, smile, frown or squint, our skin loses its elasticity and the creases in our face deepen into lines that become permanent. This is due to the over use of the facial muscles.
Treatments with anti-wrinkle injections relax muscles to improve and reduce the appearance of lines, this can make the skin appear dramatically smoother and facial lines virtually disappear.
Dermal Fillers – Dermal fillers are a non-surgical cosmetic treatment used to fill or replace lost volume in wrinkles, folds and lines that appear as you age and are visible when your face is at rest. As skin ages, we lose collagen and moisture from our skin, which results in the skin losing its firmness, therefore wrinkles and line appear. Dermal fillers can help to replace the moisture making your skin look more youthful.
