Meet the team

The dentistry team at The Essex Smile Centre includes leading experts and specialists in a wide-range of areas, so we can offer our patients outstanding levels of care for any dental problems they may have.

Lead by brothers Stephen and Declan, who took over the practice from their father in 2004, the whole team is committed to delivering an excellent patient experience in a calm, relaxed atmosphere. Dr Stephen Keane
BDS (Brist)

Stephen joined the practice in 2003, and he’s also a partner, responsible for helping to run the business with Declan and clinical mentorship to the dentists. He qualified from Bristol University in 1998 and gained his early professional experience in general practice in Bristol and London before taking over the family practice in 2004 with Declan.

He has consistently developed his career and has completed many prestigious postgraduate courses in advanced dentistry including cosmetic and occlusion seminars. This extensive knowledge helps him create beautiful life-changing smiles.

Stephen’s special interests are cosmetic tooth straightening and aesthetic cosmetic dentistry. Stephen is also a full member of the BACD (British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry) and is proud of the practices Invisalign Platinum Elite status. He says the most rewarding part of his job is the moment of finishing treatment and seeing his patient realise it was all worth it.

Stephen is married to Sophie and they live with their two children and dog Buddy. He loves football, golf, tennis and skiing. He is also a West Ham season ticket holder with Declan and dad, Denis.

Dr Declan Keane

Declan is the elder of the two brothers and qualified from Sheffield University in 1989. He worked in Australia and London before joining the practice in 1997. Taking over from father Denis with his brother Stephen in 2004.

He has developed and grown the practice to provide excellence at every level and is continually pushing himself to advance his skills and keep up with the latest technologies, such as CBCT Scanning technology, so he can provide fast and effective treatment planning of complex dental issues.

Declan loves his job and is passionate about dentistry, and he hopes that this shows in his work. His main interest is in the field of aesthetic cosmetic dentistry including smile design and tooth straightening as well as the area of family dentistry. He is a full member of the BACD (British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry) and has to maintain the highest standard of cosmetic dentistry skills to maintain his membership.

Declan lives with wife Michelle, their children and dog Paddy. A self-confessed sports addict Declan plays golf and tennis regularly. He’s a life-long West Ham fan, is a season ticket holder and goes to as many matches as he can with brother Stephen and father Denis.

Dr Deepam Patel

Deepam is the implantologist here and his work has changed the lives of many patients at The Essex Smile Centre. From single implants to complete rehabilitation of a mouth after significant tooth loss, with treatments such as the All on 4 system or by securing dentures with implants.

Deepam qualified from Bart’s & The London Medical & Dental School (QMUL) in 2002, subsequently completing his exams to gain Membership in the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (Royal College of Surgeons England).

With more than 11 years’ experience placing and restoring implants, Deepam is an established authority in the field. Attaining the highly regarded Diploma in Implant Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, where he is a member of the Implant Dentistry Advisory Board. He has a Master’s in Implant Dentistry from the University of Warwick, where he holds an honorary teaching position. He’s also an active member of a global academic organisation the International Team for Implantology (ITI).

Outside of dentistry, Deepam is a talented amateur golfer with many other sporting interests as well. He is married with 2 children, and enjoys great food and fine wines.

Dr Pierluca Campana

Pierluca joined the Essex Smile Centre in January 2018 becoming an enthusiastic participant within our caring team.

Committed to providing excellent service for patients who require endodontic treatment, he makes sure that all clinical options are explored and explained in order to achieve clinical excellence every time.

Pierluca qualified as a dentist in Italy (DipDent Rome 1996) before moving to the UK in 1998. He has held a full and permanent registration with the General Dental Council since 1998 (GDC 74002) and is a Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS RCS London).

He gained his Master’s degree (MClin Dent) in Endodontics at University College London and passed the Membership Examination in Endodontics (MEndo RCS Edinburgh). Pierluca is on the GDC specialist list for Endodontics and is a Specialist Member of the European Society of Endodontics.

Dr Jayesh Pala
BDS (UCLan), MPharm, MFDS, RCSEd

Jayesh graduated from The University of Central Lancashire, having previously worked as a qualified Pharmacist for 2 years. Always looking to develop his skills in order to stay on top of new and evolving treatments he also recently qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (MFDS).

Jayesh has an interest in aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry, and is experienced in short-term orthodontics. He recently expanded his remit to include facial aesthetics (anti-wrinkle treatments).

With a strong belief in preventative and minimally invasive dentistry, he places great emphasis on patient care and comfort. He is a fantastic member of The Essex Smile Centre team and you can rest assured you are in the care of one of the most conscientious and caring practitioners to be found anywhere.

He provides excellent customer service in a friendly, approachable and holistic manner. He’s a first-class communicator, who relishes new situations and fresh opportunities.

Dr Charlotte Lee
BchD (Leeds)

Charlotte qualified from University of Leeds in 2013. Her dedication and enthusiasm for dentistry has won her several clinical and academic accolades including a merit for Dental Surgery and the Jackson prize for her work with dental phobic children.

Originally from Leigh-on-Sea, she gained her early professional experience in Yorkshire working in Halifax, Huddersfield and Bramley as a general dental practitioner and in emergency dental services in Leeds. We were delighted to welcome Charlotte back to Essex when she joined us in 2017.

Charlotte is passionate about her career in dentistry and facial aesthetics and her calm, confident and gentle approach to patient care enables her to gain the trust of patients quickly. Consistently updating her clinical skills she has attended many courses, especially in the fields of cosmetic dentistry and facial aesthetics, gaining further qualifications for wrinkle softening injections and fillers. These skills enable Charlotte to deliver treatment to the highest standard.

Charlottes fiancé is also a dentist and they are expecting their first child later this year. Hobbies include horse riding, singing and a little bit of “am dram” now and then when time allows.

Tommy is an experienced general dentist who has been working at The Essex Smile Centre since 1985.

He qualified in 1984 from University College, Cork and worked briefly in Wickford before joining the team here when Denis Keane was the principal dentist.

A strong proponent of our commitment to seeking excellence in patient care, Tommy is kind, gentle and hugely popular with staff and patients alike.

Tommy is married to his future ex-wife (his words!) with three boys.  Like Declan and Stephen he is an enthusiastic follower of sport. Any sport.

Dr Martin Witzman
Karolinska University 2006, Stockholm

After growing up in Iran, Martin travelled extensively to pursue a rich and varied career in dentistry, gaining a wide range of qualifications from colleges and universities in London, Barcelona, Gothenburg and Stockholm. He joined the Essex Smile Centre in June 2020 after practising dentistry in several organisations throughout Iran, Sweden and the South-East of England.

Martin’s special areas of interest are in family dental care, as well as aesthetic and cosmetic restoration. He describes the most rewarding and uplifting part of his job as working with patients to define tailored treatment plans that lead to excellent results.

Married since 2016, Martin lives in Canary Wharf, where his ideal start to the weekend would be the sunlight hitting his bedroom curtain, followed by a nice freshly brewed cup of his favourite tea whilst relaxing on the balcony, gazing at the London skyline.

From a young age, his passion has been travelling and he loves to immerse himself in other cultures, discovering their food, customs and habits. Martin already speaks 4 languages and in now learning a fifth.

We asked…

With the theme of travel in mind, which luxury item would Martin take to a desert island, which destination was next on his bucket list and what drink he would order when he arrived there.

A: He answered, a pair of designer sunglasses – either Dior or Fendi, a train ride to the Machu Pichu and a ‘Caipirinha’ (lime, cachaca and sugar). Wow, can we come too…?

Dr Priya Suglani
(Hons) MFDS RCS (Edin) PgDip Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics PgDip Clear Aligner Therapy

After graduating from Kings College London in 2015, Priya went on to complete a number of associated dental courses including Invisalign Go and GC Gradia Composite Course. She also gained the Aspire Advanced Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry Diploma.

Priya gained experience working in various London hospitals, as well as associate jobs in London & Buckhurst Hill, before eventually joining the Essex Smile Centre in September 2020, and with her thoughtful, caring approach, she fitted in immediately as part of our friendly team.

Her special interests include cosmetic dentistry, smile design, whitening and Invisalign and she loves to see what a difference even the most subtle changes in a smile can make to a person’s confidence.

Outside of dentistry, Priya runs a successful fashion, beauty & lifestyle blog on Instagram with over 21,000 followers. She also loves street dance and has choreographed and performed in numerous shows over the years.

Cancer Research UK is a charity very close to her heart and every year Priya organises a fundraising event, which raised £8,000 in its most success year.

Sukh graduated from King’s College London in 2018. After completing dental core training at Peterborough City Hospital Oral and Maxillofacial Dept, he also worked at a busy high street practice in East London before joining the Essex Smile Centre in September 2020.

His particular interests include minor oral surgery, restorative and cosmetic. He gains the most satisfaction when taking patients out of pain and helping them achieve good oral health.

Sukh describes himself as ambitious and competitive – something which may come from being the youngest of four siblings. When he is not working, he enjoys tennis, music, art and DIY.

After 13 years in the industry, Pooja joined The Essex Smile Centre in April 2023. She specialises in Smile Design and her special interests are in aesthetic and restorative dentistry. Pooja is a highly-valued member of the team who has formed a great rapport with her patients.

It’s the positive impact that she’s able to make to people’s lives that she enjoys most about her role and takes great satisfaction in helping patients achieve better dental health. She describes one of her proudest moments as seeing the positive transformation in a patient’s confidence and wellbeing after several challenging and complex procedures that successfully restored their smile and oral health.

Outside of work, Pooja has many leisure interests. She enjoys travelling, mindfulness and hot yoga, swimming, fashion and sports cars.

Dr Tasnim Choudhury
MD, BDS (Lond), MSc (Merit), AKC (Merit)

Tasnim qualified from Guy’s, King’s and St. Thomas’ Dental School, London, in 2012. Subsequently she combined working in general practice and the Community Dental Services in London with completing a Masters in Primary Dental Care at the University of Kent.

During this time, she also taught undergraduate dental students at King’s College London and gained a diverse range of experience in oral surgery, sedation, periodontics, special care, paediatric and restorative dentistry.

Currently Tasnim is a specialist registrar on the postgraduate training programme in Periodontology at Guy’s Hospital. She also works there as an undergraduate clinical teacher and examiner in Periodontology. Tasnim has published papers on periodontal risk factors and is currently involved in dental research into advanced techniques for the management of periodontitis.

Tasnim is a member of the British Society of Periodontology and The European Federation of Periodontology. She is also medically trained and has a particular interest in treating nervous patients. She is a member of SAAD (Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry).

Tasnim joined the Essex Smile Centre in 2020 where she is committed to managing a wide range of periodontal conditions to the highest standards and securing the best treatment outcomes for our wonderful patients.

When she’s not at work, Tasnim enjoys travelling the globe, outdoor excursions, arts and crafts, fine dining and spending quality time with family and friends.

Roman Weidi
DMD, PGDip Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry (ongoing)

Roman is one of our devoted dentists who joined the team in October 2023. He graduated in 2018 from the University of Luliu Hațieganu in Romania and has since built an impressive array of experience in restorative and aesthetic dentistry, correctional alignment and smile makeovers.

His desire to continually improve has led him to complete a PG Diploma in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry and he’s attended numerous courses to further his knowledge in more specific areas including: Minor Oral Surgery and Invisalign.

It’s the artistic side of his work that most appeals to Roman. He takes great pride in transforming a person’s smile and he loves seeing the difference it makes on their self-confidence.

Outside the practice, you’ll find him tickling the ivories or playing competitive level tennis and football alongside a host of other outdoor activities.
