Saving your smile from tooth loss
Root Canal treatment (also called Endodontics) is designed to save an infected tooth. Its purpose is to conserve a tooth that has been damaged by decay, fracture or an abscess. We at The Smile Centre now use a revolutionary material called Smart Seal (www.smart-seal.co.uk). It has many advantages over the old root filling material and has no disadvantages. We will provide you with a special Smart seal card at the end of your treatment to say that you have has this new material placed in your tooth.
Although the nerve of the tooth is dead or dying, the actual tooth is not. To save the tooth, we can clean out the small space in the centre of the tooth occupied by the nerve, disinfect the space and then seal it. This treatment effectively saves the tooth as the tooth does not require blood supply from the nerve for its successful function.
Signs you may need Root Canal Treatment:
- Lingering tooth sensitivity to hot, cold or sweets
- Impulsive, throbbing or intermittent tooth pain. Especially at night.
- Swelling of the face
These symptoms can cause an unbearable toothache that prevents you from doing normal daily tasks. Root Canal treatments can typically be deferred for a day or two with over-the-counter painkillers for immediate pain and inflammation. If you believe you may require Root Canal treatment, we recommend that you do visit us as soon as possible for treatment to avoid any aggravated problems.
